WEIGHTED & THERAPY BLANKETS
Weighted blankets like LEVIA are no longer only used in a medical context: In the meantime, they are also available on the market for the home - in a wide variety of models, weight classes and price categories.
But how does an effective therapy blanket actually stand out? How can you recognise high quality? And what else should you look for when buying a weighted blanket?
In the following shopping guide, we would like to help you gain a better overview and go into the essential differences and quality features of our LEVIA weighted blanket.
HIGH QUALITY MATERIALS
MAKE THE DIFFERENCE
NATURAL COTTON FABRICS FOR RELAXED NIGHTS
Only high-quality fabrics made of 100% ecological cotton are used for the LEVIA blankets & covers. As a natural fibre, cotton is not only extremely pleasant and soft on the skin, but also has a climate-regulating and breathable effect. This means that moisture is better released from the body and heat build-up does not occur, which would disturb a restful night's sleep.
Other weighted blanket covers are often made of synthetic fibres, such as polyester, velour or minky. These are soft and warming - but in contrast to pure natural fibres, heat accumulates much more quickly underneath, which can be very uncomfortable, especially in summer. Unfortunately, this also applies to most 4-season covers made of mixed fibres (e.g. cotton/nickel fabric mix). This means that only natural fibres such as cotton and flannel are best suited as a year-round solution.
GLASS BEADS ALLOW EASY MAINTENANCE
The LEVIA blanket is filled with fine micro glass beads on the inside. These not only create the desired "weight effect", but also simplify the care of the weighted blanket enormously: For example, the LEVIA weighted blankets can be washed in the washing machine without any complications. In addition, the glass beads have slightly cooling properties and are absolutely harmless to health.
In other blankets, plastic beads or metal balls are often used as filling material. While plastic beads can melt when washed in the washing machine, metal balls have another disadvantage: they are glued inside the blanket. At first glance, this provides stability and an even distribution of weight, but because of the glue used, it prevents the blanket from being easily cleaned in the washing machine.
The construction is
key for a good night's sleep
EXTRA SMALL CHAMBERS FOR OPTIMIZED WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION
Besides the quality of the materials used, the construction is also an important criterion for high-quality weighted blankets. Above all, the size of the chambers plays an important role: the smaller they are, the more evenly the weight is distributed over the entire blanket. The LEVIA blanket therefore has an extra-small, neatly crafted chamber design measuring only 5 x 5 cm, which allows the weight of the glass beads to be distributed particularly evenly.
In weighted blankets with larger chambers, there is more filling material in each individual chamber. This allows the glass or plastic beads to move over a larger area and create stressful pressure points on the body, for example. In the long run, this uneven distribution of weight would promote sleep problems rather than healthy sleep.
12 LOOPS FOR A SECURE GRIP
The way the duvet is connected to the cover also changes from duvet to duvet. Basically, the more connection points, the more support the blanket offers.
For the best support, the LEVIA duvet has a well thought-out loop system: there are 12 holes in the duvet (similar to small buttonholes) that can be linked to 12 loops on the inside of the cover. The loops are deliberately positioned so that they are well protected and cannot be torn off when the cover is removed.
Other duvets, on the other hand, usually have far fewer of these connection points or instead use zip systems to firmly connect the cover to the duvet. This may seem advantageous at first because a supposedly quick cover change is possible. However, a major disadvantage lies in the high wearability of the zip (e.g. when washing in the machine). And the uncomfortable rubbing feeling of a metal zip when it comes into contact with the skin is also a factor that should be considered.
DESIGNED IN GERMANY,
MADE IN EUROPE
SHORT TRANSPORT ROUTES & SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION IN EUROPE
LEVIA weighted blankets are manufactured entirely within Europe. This results in 2 major benefits:
Rigorous high quality standards - both in terms of the raw materials used and all production processes
Significant reduction of the ecological footprint due to shorter transport routes and significantly lower CO2 emissions (compared to overseas production)
Re-Usable PACKAGING MADE FROM RECYCLED COTTON
To consciously protect the environment, all LEVIA products are packed 100% plastic-free, in reusable cotton bags.
This way, they can be shipped well protected and absolutely hygienic - at the same time, unnecessary packaging waste (due to for example: conventional plastic bags, bubble wrap, etc.) is avoided.
